Five Tips for Eco-Friendly Travel

November 20th 2017

At Hilton Head Outfitters, we love exploring and protecting the natural beauty that surrounds us—and helping you do the same. Eco-friendly living is easier than you’d think! Here are some of our green travel tips so that you can enjoy an eco-friendly vacation in Hilton Head Island, and make greener choices throughout the year.

1: Turn off the lights, electronics, and air conditioning when you’re not in the room.

Turn off the lights, TVs, and other electronics in your guest room or vacation rental when you leave for the day. Keep your room temperature set to a comfortable, but not cold, setting while you’re not in the room so the air conditioning isn’t blasting all day long while you’re out exploring the Island.

2: Leave natural spaces clean and undisrupted

Our photo-worthy surroundings are delicate ecosystems that can be disrupted easily, so as the saying goes, “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.” Leave the areas you visit just as you found them, without disturbing any of the plants or animals that make their homes in Hilton Head Island.

3: Eat local

Not only is trying local cuisine part of the fun of traveling, by doing so you’re reducing transport emissions created by importing food. In Hilton Head Island eating local is easy to do. Our sustainably sourced local seafood is the tastiest you’ll find anywhere, and you can even see exactly where it comes from on one of our fishing charters! So be adventurous and try some local flavors.

4: Connect with nature

Spend time connecting with nature, and yourself. Rent a kayak and explore our extensive lagoon system, and leave the cell phone at home. A peaceful paddle is a wonderful way to take in Hilton Head Island’s extraordinary wildlife and embrace Hilton Head Outfitter’s beautiful natural surroundings.

5: Eco-friendly transportation

Leaving the car in the garage is easy to do when you’re at Palmetto Dunes! Stop by, rent one of our bikes and hit the road. We have everything you need to explore Hilton Head Island on two wheels: helmets, baskets, even bicycles built for two! Enjoy a calming cycle along the beach or take to one of the many trails on Hilton Head Island. The benefits are many: you’ll get exercise, enjoy an up-close and personal perspective on our neighborhoods and nature sights, and do the environment a favor too!

With these helpful tips in mind, you’re all set to enjoy an enjoyable and eco-friendly Lowcountry vacation. See you soon!
