Safety knowledge before visiting Hilton Head Island with this bike rentals video guide

Bike rentals are one of the best ways to experience the beautiful Hilton Head Island scenery Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina have to offer. This four-minute safety video will help you become more familiar with bike safety practices as well as the underpass, which allows you to cross 278 safely from Palmetto Dunes to Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. The most important message to note is that vehicles have the right-of-way, so be sure you stop at all the red stop signs with the bike symbol and look both ways before you cross!

  • Pick up your bike rentals, helmets and locks at Hilton Head Outfitters

  • Vehicles have right-of-way, yield to cars and stop before crossing

  • Use bike paths around the resort to stay off the busy roads or bike on the beach

  • Stay on the right side of the pathway, use the left to pass

  • Look both ways before crossing

  • Utilize bike racks when stopping around Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina

  • Bike towards to the resort entrance to reach the underpass

  • Stay to the right and take the underpass to cross 278 safely from Palmetto Dunes to Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina

  • Be aware of your surroundings

  • Obey all pathway markings

  • Ride single file and keep a safe distance from other bicyclists

You can view the resort map here. Remember to use the underpass – it is the only permitted way to cross 278 safely from Palmetto Dunes to Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina by foot or bike. Check out our past blog for more bike safety tips and be sure to keep these in mind when you are riding around Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort this year.
